My wife and I recently decided to convert our bonus room to an entertainment room. We purchased two recliners and needed a couple end tables. I’d been thinking about this for some time and had a general idea of what to build. I decided on making two, four leg tables, with a drawer and lower shelf. I wanted them to be a little different and designed a hidden compartment in the back of the drawers. The design was completed using a Computer Aided Design (CAD) system purchased a few years ago. I selected Red Oak because it’s plentiful and fairly easy to work. I chose Hickory for the stain
I cut the boards to width and length using my DeWalt DW745 table saw with sliding table and precision miter gauge. This was also used for the tennons on the rails. I used my Delta drill press and forstner bit for the mortises. I like reinforcing boards I join together and used my Ryobi biscuit jointer for this. The project went fairly smoothly and was completed in less than a week. In the not to distant future, I plan on purchasing a jointer and bench top mortiser. These would have made the project even easier. We sell several brands and I’m looking at Delta or Jet.
